I am currently redesigning and updating my pattern after discovering a few things I wanted to change when I started diapering my son. For one, I'd like the diapers to snap. At only 8 weeks old he has already discovered the
velcro tabs on his diapers and pulls at them unless they are fully covered by his clothes. If his diapers are closed with snaps he's going to have a much harder time getting them undone even if he continues to tug at them. I've also discovered that he needs a higher cut leg opening than the average. Additionally, I've become frustrated with the extended drying times of true
AIOs, especially since I have gone back to work full time. All of these issues have led me to do an overhaul of my pattern to update the styling to better meet my diapering needs. Besides, I figured if I am having these concerns surely there are others with some of the same concerns.
I'm still playing around with the cut and sizing of the updated patterns and having some limited testing of the fit done right now. I'm hoping to move on to a larger group of testers in the not too distant future when I get the pattern worked out more fully. Several changes I have made to my diapers at this point include adding front snap closures, a higher cut leg opening, lowering the overall rise a little by adding a slight belly scoop, and going from a true
AIO with sewn in
soakers to a snap-in-one styling with snap-in
soakers. I'm also playing with the idea of offering an "
AIO" version with flap style
soakers sewn to the top of the lining for much faster drying times. I am also working on a new fitted diaper styled similarly to my new
SIO style. I have not decided whether or not these changes will necessitate the need for a revised diaper cover pattern as well to accommodate the new styling of the
fitteds.
